SHE walks out of her hostel to get to her college when someone from a group of boys standing some feet away from her hostel premises whistles at her.
What does SHE do? - IGNORE
SHE is stared upon by two guys standing in front of the college gate.
What does SHE do?- IGNORE
SHE is stalked by the same guys who were staring her just a minute ago.
What does SHE do?- IGNORE
SHE reach her class, put her bag down on the bench where she loves to sit, sit down, take a deep breadth and finally FEEL SAFE!
After the class, she hesitatingly moves out of her class to reach up to the water cooler when a boy stares at her and says "isko patta dala toh life jhingalala"
Students around her laugh.
What does SHE do?- IGNORE
SHE and her group of friends chat and laugh at the top of their voices during lunch break when a group of boys start to imitate their voice and laugh.
What does the girls do?- IGNORE
SHE sits with her friends in the college garden when a group of boys starts to sing "tune maari entriyaan toh dil me baaji ghantiyaan"
What does SHE do?- IGNORE
While returing back from college to her hostel, a football suddenly hits her leg very hard. She looks up to see 7-8 boys laughing and smiling at her while one of them comes to her, picks up the ball, apologize and runs away!
What does SHE do?- IGNORE
SHE finally get into her hostel room and FEELS SAFE!
Next day, same story.
Every time, every place, every hour SHE's being noticed and commented upon, be it when SHE enjoys with her friends, when SHE eats her lunch in the canteen, when SHE walks around in the market, when SHE chats around with her guy friends, when SHE wears that beautiful sleeve-less top which her elder sister gifted her on her birthday or even when SHE reads a book in the library.
And what does SHE do to all this?
SHE JUST IGNORES.
Now to all my male readers who might be wondering by now,"Damn who is SHE? Poor little thing. World's hard on her!"
To them- She is the common INDIAN GIRL- your sister, daughter, mother, wife, and even someone whom you've commented upon in your so called youth days!
Yes! I am referring to the gorgeous halves of our society who have been IGNORING those bloody comments she gets in almost all phases of her life.
But do we actually ignore? Do we really don't bother about it? To this, SHE has a simple and straight answer- NO. Deep down inside SHE suffers-- suffers from insecurities, premonitions, critical views, heeds, exhortations and the rest.
This time I'm bringing this less explored cause through my blog. I don't know how to refer it as- eve-teasing, harassment, or simply commenting (whatever, i don't care!)
I am bringing up the issue of boys commenting on girls walking around in the college campus, as they feel...........I don't know!
( Girls, have you noticed the amazing talent they've got? They adjust their pitch so well such that their peers as well as the targeted girls are the only ones who hear that. Freaking Awesome!)
So who's at fault?
After listening to all the advises we girls get - stay in groups, avoid going to isolated places, be well-behaved, dress decently, travel with a male, etc- I guess the society thinks that it's the girls who are at fault.
I mean seriously. are we?
A girl is walking down to her class in her college, a boy comments on her. So its a girls fault that she's being commented upon?
Claps from my side for such a logic.
Actually what comes next is when the girl is at fault. The part when she IGNORES (and the boy feels he's at the top of the world- a macho man). This is the moment when we are actually at fault girls!
Why IGNORE? Why be so quite? Speak up girls! And believe me we are better "hate word" speakers than boys think of themselves to be!
By the way, I've seen girls complaining about this to the higher authorities. Result- Baba ji ka thullu. (thanks Kapil Sharma, this phrase just fits so well sometimes!)
I've seen girls go violent sometimes- you know giving a tight slap and stuff like that! Some of my hardcore tomboy friends say "we all should learn karate", be Dabangg" and all.
( As per me, Karate won't be a good option. You know, the fact is girl fights are more in number than eve-teasing cases. Imagine if girls start using their karate techniques while fighting with each other- the so called cat fights will turn into lioness fights!)
So my question to all the girls out there- Why so serious? (Joker style). Why IGNORING this shit all the time and killing yourself inside all day, and at the same time, making boys believe they are free birds who can do whatever they want in this already male-dominated society. Or why acting so violent and then bearing the unwelcomed consequences of it?
What I call for is-- REPLYING.
If they can entertain themselves by mere commenting on us, so can we.
* So if a group of guys start singing "zara tasveer se tu nikal ke saamne aa meri mehbooba". The next time you see them around, collect your friends and start singing "aree ye toh bta dekhta hai tu kya" or "ham bhi hai josh me baatein kr hosh me, yun na aakhein dikha".
Believe me, it works!
* If a guy stares at you, stare him harder ( and signal him through your body posture as if saying what?). Then if he smiles, don't smile back, give a harsh look and walk away confidently.
* Next time a football comes from nowhere and hits you or just misses you, look in the eyes of those boys and say "bad shot guys, the goals's over there!" Kick the ball into the goal or simply pass it on to them and walk off.
Just be calm and answer in the most wittiest way possible.
Only when we'll stop ignoring and start replying back will they cease such stuff. And only when we'll start replying will we feel better about ourselves!
And for all those boys who love commenting on girls- go get a life people! We don't bloody walk on streets for your entertainment. What do you think? It is cool to do this? If yes, then you're totally getting it wrong!
You know what's cool?
* stopping the other guys engaged in commenting.
* reminding yourself that SHE is someone's daughter or sister just like the one's you've got.
*And yes! Holding your tongue is the coolest thing ever!
Girls CHILL! Don't take it as the most ridiculous thing happened to you in your life, It's not the end of the world. Its just some mere words coming out from a bunch of fools. Take it easy, give a reply and move on confidently. Take them as jokes and let your swag shine!
Do remember-
Don't Ignore. Just Reply.
And as Barney Stinson says:
